Signing Ceremony

On November 10, the Joint Venture of "CGGC-Sinohydro-CGCOC" led by CGGC, one of the subsidiaries of Energy China signed with Nigerian Federal Ministry of Power, Construction and Housing, the Contract for "Mambilla Hydropower Station in Nigeria", called Nigeria's Three Gorges Project. The Contract Amount of the Project is USD 5.7925 billion, about RMB 38.346 billion, making it the largest overseas hydropower project by PRC enterprises.
Nigerian Federal Minister of Power, Construction and Housing hosted the Contract Signing Ceremony and made a speech. He reviewed the 40-year-history of developing Mambilla Project and highlighted the importance of this Project in power development and improving the people's livelihood in Nigeria. He also spoke highly of the Joint Venture in its ability of contract performance and praised the signing of the Contract as an significant step for project execution.
The Project mainly involves 4 RCC dams, 2 connecting tunnels with the total length of 15.9km, 2 Persion tunnels with the total length of 6.8km, 2 tailrace tunnels with the total length of 7.6km, underground powerhouses, 12 impulse water turbines and power generation system, fabrication and installation of 27,000t metal structure, 184km access road, and 1,295km common-tower double-circuit HV transmission lines. The total installed capacity of the Project is 3,050MW, with the duration of 72 months.
The Mambilla hydropower project has the great advantage of harnessing all its waters from the Mambilla plateau as the entire catchments fall within the boundary of the country. Besides generating abundant power that would complement the current power shortage in the country, transmission to demand areas would be readily carried out. Large to medium scale industries would spring up particularly downstream of the dam sites as cheap and steady power would be available all the year. The development of the project would be of immense strategic importance to the country in the event of either disruptions or exhaustion in fossil fuels supplies in future. There is scope for increased tourism, as the series of cascading dams would offer beautiful sceneries, recreations, moderate the micro -climate and attract visitors within and across the boarders of the country. By taking advantage of large volume of water available, there would be increased fish production, irrigated agriculture and the development of agro-allied industries besides water supply.
The Joint Venture of "CGGC-Sinohydro-CGCOC" is jointly funded by CGGC, Sinohydro and CGCOC at a share allocation ratio of 45%, 35% and 20% respectively, which is led by CGGC. All parties will form a united joint venture to complete the Project, bear responsibilities and share profits according to the share ratio.
