On 25th April, 2019, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Ms. Almida AliShahbana, by her attendance to the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, visited Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute (EPPEI), a subsidiary of Energy China,  and held in-depth exchanges and discussions with EPPEI on relevant cooperation matters.

During the conversation, ESCAP and EPPEI consented to strengthen the cooperation in renewable energy development and utilization, as well as power interconnection and accessibility, in order to jointly promote the realization of the UN sustainable development goals.

Ms. Almeda Ali Shahbana highly recognized the work undertaken by EPPEI regarding ESCAP Energy Interconnection Expert Working Group Secretariat, and sincerely appreciated on the research work carried out by EPPEI on promoting power interconnectivity, renewable energy utilization and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.

EPPEI has been undertaking the work of UN ESCAP Energy Interconnect Expert Working Group since May 2017, , which aims to strengthen communication and exchanges between countries, promote pragmatic cooperation, and improve the level of energy interconnection in the Asia-Pacific region.
