Energy China Signed Contract of Egypt and Saudi Arabia for ±500KV HVDC Transmission Line BADR-TABA2

China Energy Engineering Corporation Limited (“Energy China”), as the consortium lead party, successfully signed the EPC contract of Egypt and Saudi Arabia for ±500KV HVDC Transmission Line BADR-TABA2 project (“Project”) with the Egyptian Power Transmission Company (“EETC”). Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker, Chairman of the Egyptian Transmission Company Sabah Masali attended the ceremony and witnessed the signing.

 

This DC transmission line project is of the highest voltage level and the longest transmission distance spanning the Middle East and North Africa. The Project is aimed to build the largest electric network in the Arab region and the Middle East, is qualified to be a regional center for energy exchange via carrying out linkage projects with other countries.

Regarding the cooperation with Chinese companies, Shaker expressed it was not the first time for Egypt to work with Chinese companies, hoping that the Project would be delivered in time with competitive prices and excellent quality of products. “We are happy about the cooperation with the Chinese side.” said Shaker.

 

The Project will start from the Badr Converter Station in Egypt, and the end point is the Taba2 Converter Station in Saudi Arabia. The total length is 335 kilometers. It will become a benchmark project for the interconnection and transmission of power grids between Egypt and surrounding areas, as well as a key milestone to formalize the global energy interconnection plan. The construction of this Project will be of great significance to optimize the structure of Egypt's power system, increase employment, and promote local economic and social development.

This Project is the first overseas UHV DC transmission EPC project signed by Energy China, which has achieved a new breakthrough in overseas transmission line sector.
