The Main Road Rehabilitation and Upgrading Project of the Railway Line between Walvis Bay and Arandis in Namibia Has Begun
Undertaken by China Gezhouba Group, a subsidiary of Energy China(@EnergyChinaNews), the main road rehabilitation and upgrading project of the railway line between Walvis Bay and Arandis in Namibia has begun. Covering a total length of 109 km, the project uses continuous welded rail. The project uses flash butt welding machine (flash butt welder) to weld 36-meter steel rails into 108-meter ones. The project department successfully completed the welding of 16 108-meter rails on January 12, 2021. It plans to complete the welding work of 54 km (double track) rail in A1S1 section in the next three months. Upon completion, the project will significantly increase Namibia’s transport capacity from the Botswanan border to Walvis Bay (Namibia's largest port), and facilitate cross-border trade.
