The first batch of the units of the Baihetan Hydropower Station are officially put into operation. This hydropower station has a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts (ranking second in the world) and a single unit capacity of 1 million kilowatts (ranking first in the world). China Gezhouba Group, a subsidiary of Energy China, undertook the installation and commissioning of 8 megawatt units and the civil construction and metal structure installation of the power diversion system on the right bank of the project. The power station will generate about 62.443 billion kWh of electricity annually, mainly to be delivered to Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.

It is scheduled to put all its units into operation by July 2022, which will meet 500000 residents’ annual need for power. Once the project is completed, about 25 million tons of coal will be saved each year, and emissions of CO2 and SO2 will be reduced by 65 million tons and 600,000 tons annually. In addition, the construction and operation of the hydropower station will provide employment opportunities, improve the transportation and other infrastructure conditions in the surrounding areas, and benefit 100,000 residents in both Sichuan and Yunnan provinces.
