Baihetan Hydropower Station comes into operation

All the 16 million-kilowatt hydropower generating units of Baihetan Hydropower Station have come into operation on Dec 20, marking the completion of the world’s largest clean energy corridor.

Baihetan Hydropower Station

Baihetan's full operation came after the last of its 16 hydro-generating units completed a 72-hour trial operation on Tuesday morning. With a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts, Baihetan is second only to the Three Gorges Dam project in the central Chinese province of Hubei.

From the million-kilowatt turbine generating units, the world’s largest underground plant, to the hybrid cascaded UHV DC transmission project, CEEC has contributed its solutions, wisdom and power to the energy miracle. The massive hydro plant can convert the abundant local water resources into 62.4 billion kWh of green power every year, providing sustainable, clean and reliable energy while preserving the local ecosystem.

Boasting 110 hydropower units with a total installed capacity of 71.7 million kilowatts, the world’s largest clean energy corridor, consisting of Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Hydropower stations, is expected to generate 300 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year, reducing coal consumption by 90 million tonnes and carbon emissions by 248 million tonnes.

The 1,800-km-long clean energy corridor also plays a major role in flood control, shipping, water resources utilization, and ecological security in the Yangtze River Basin.
