An alliance consisting of CEEC subsidiaries China Energy International Group Co., Ltd. and Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. officially signed an EPC contract with Manila Electric Company (Meralco) for Terra 1.4GW solar + 3.3GW storage project, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, on November 18, local time.
The Terra solar storage project is set in Nueva Ecija province, 100 kilometers north of Manila, and includes a phased plan for 3.5GW of photovoltaic capacity and 4.5GWh of energy storage capacity.
The Phase I West District project signed this time encompasses the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a 1.4 GW solar power plant, along with the design and installation of a 3.3 GWh electrochemical energy storage plant.
The project contract is now in effect, with construction slated to commence in November 2024 and commercial operation expected by 2026.
Once operational, the solar and storage facilities will team up to deliver a stable power supply of at least 600 MW for a minimum of 84 hours per week, significantly boosting the share of renewable energy in the local grid and effectively easing electricity shortages on Luzon Island.
