The medical team from the Caculo Cabaça Hydropower Project in Angola, undertaken by CEEC China Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd. (CGGC), recently embarked on a health-focused public welfare campaign in Kilamba Primary School in the country from February 26 to 28.

Themed "Cholera is Preventable and Controllable: Health Starts with Me," the event provided nearly 200 teachers and students with educational activities, interactive scenarios, and other health knowledge.  

Facing the ongoing cholera outbreak in Angola since January 2025, Dr. Joaquina Lorenço, an Angolan doctor of the project team, took a creative approach by combining complicated theory with engaging skits. Through realistic scenarios depicting local activities like water fetching and fish preparation, she effectively illustrated the transmission of cholera.

By involving the students in role-playing exercises to identify symptoms and understand dehydration signs, the complex medical information was made easily comprehensible.

Setting up an outdoor teaching space, the medical team translated epidemic prevention guidelines into practical steps. Demonstrating the World Health Organization's recommended handwashing technique, the children eagerly participated in a handwashing competition, learning proper hygiene practices with enthusiasm.

To ensure the effectiveness of the prevention measures, the project team specially prepared "health protection kits", containing essential items like antibacterial soap, water purification tablets, and household water purification guidebooks. An environmental engineer demonstrated the correct way to mix disinfectants on-site.

School Principal Maria Fernandes expressed her appreciation, stating that the supplies addressed their critical water purification challenges. "Our Chinese friends have not only shared knowledge but also provided life-changing tools," she noted.
