On May 8th,local time, the Rijeka Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) project,undertaken by the consortium led by China Energy Engineering Group Jiangsu Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. (CEEC JSPDI) as leaderof the EPC contract—hosted the Mayor of Rijeka, Mr. Marko Filipović, and local media for a site tour. The visit highlighted the project's steady progress and strategic importance in advancing urban environmental infrastructure, reflecting strong cooperation between Croatia and China under EU-backed development.
The Rijeka WWTP is a central component of the “Improvement of Water and Utility Infrastructure in the Rijeka Agglomeration” project. Thisproject is co-financed by the European Union through the Cohesion Fund. It is designed to serve up to 200,000 population equivalents, with a maximum treatment capacity of 1,000 liters per second. The facility will incorporate advanced biological treatment processes and biogas production, supporting on-site energy needs and employing thermal drying technology to achieve a sludge dryness content of at least 90%.
During the visit, Mayor Filipović emphasized the project’s significance as a generational investment for Rijeka’s sustainable development. Mr. Andrej Marochini, Director of KD Vodovod i Kanalizacija d.o.o., expressed confidence in the construction timeline and praised the partnership with the Chinese-led consortium.
