Angolan President Joao Lourenco expressed his satisfaction with the implementation progress of the Caculo Cabaça Hydropower Project, undertaken by CEEC China Gezhouba Group Co., Ltd. (CGGC).

Lourence made the remarks on February 11, local time, when he was updated on the construction progress, financing status, and localization management of the project in Angola.

He also thanked CGGC for its ongoing dedication to Angola's development and its valuable contributions to the country.

The president emphasized the fruitful collaboration between Angola and China under the Belt and Road Initiative in recent years, commending the significant contributions of CGGC's projects in Angola, particularly in enhancing the country's energy supply, promoting local employment, and fostering economic and social progress.

The ongoing Caculo Cabaça Hydropower Project stands as Angola's largest infrastructure endeavor, drawing considerable attention and support from the Angolan government and society, he noted.

Lourenço expressed the hope that CGGC would further capitalize on its expertise, rally all stakeholders, expedite key projects, and deepen its engagement in Angola's economic and social advancement to bolster the nation's economic and social diversification.

He affirmed the Angolan government's commitment to bolstering support for key projects, aiming to achieve more tangible outcomes in bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

The head of the project emphasized the importance of enhanced collaboration among all stakeholders, efficient resource utilization, and unwavering dedication to propel the project forward. The team is fully committed to reaching the targeted power generation goals at the earliest opportunity for the betterment of the people of Angola.

Two machines are currently working simultaneously to excavate the tailwater tunnel, with a single tunnel achieving a breakthrough of over 182 meters per month.

The project team will enhance communication and collaboration with all involved parties, stick to the project timeline, efficiently manage construction, optimize plans, speed up project progress, coordinate all construction tasks, and work tirelessly to ensure the smooth commissioning of the first generating unit.

Located in Dondo, Cuanza Norte Province, Angola, the project is the largest of its kind undertaken by a Chinese company in Africa, with a total installed capacity of 2,170 megawatts. Dubbed the "Three Gorges of Africa," the project is expected to generate an average annual electricity output of 8,566 gigawatt-hours upon completion, meeting over 50% of Angola's electricity demand and significantly boosting local economic and social development.

Angola's Minister of State for Economic Coordination José de Lima Massano, Minister of Energy and Water João Baptista Borges, and Minister of Finance Vera Daves, among others, attended the event.
